SANYO ECJN55F RICE COOKER 5.5CUP SOUP FUNCTION

Comment: First off - I hate posting reviews - especially bad ones. I have never done this before - but I had to this time. I paid $40 plus shipping for this rice cooker from Antonline (because the PRODUCT got great reviews). I used it once, and it didn't work, so I called Sanyo (which is what the seller said I had to do before contacting them for a refund). Sanyo said it was a faulty item and to send it back to the seller. The seller then made ME pay the shipping costs ($13.95 for a $40 item) to ship it back to them, and it will take up to a month for the return transaction. I found out later that another buyer had a similar problem with a lamp purchased from these folks. I would never have a buyer pay to return a broken item that I sold to them. It's just not good business...and they will never get mine again. Hope this helps someone else some day.

Comment: I used the rice cooker to make brown rice tonight which turned out perfectly. The cooker was quiet and did not splatter water all over the counter like some of the cheap ones do. If you are looking for a good basic rice cooker, this is it.

Comment: I have had this rice cooker for eight months, and I have no complaints.

Reliability: It is holding up well so far and cooks my rice perfectly each time. The quality is great.

Functions: The rice making is perfect, and the cooker makes smaller amounts of soups/stews (which I usually just make on the stove anyway in large quantities). I have only steamed vegetables in the steamer, but those came out fine. It is a small steam basket, so don't expect to fit a whole lot, but it will do the job for vegetables on the side or small dumplings. Finally, the warming function is wonderful and keeps my food well when I make it way ahead of time.

Convenience: I make a lot of rice (a couple times a week), so this was a worthwhile investment for me. I stick the rice in, walk away, and I come back some time later when it is done and keeping the rice warm- this suits me well. It is light and easily portable too, so when I want to cook at someone else's house, I just grab it by the handle, wrap up the cord, and I am on my way.

I find it rather easy to clean. You just wipe the inside of the lid, and the components that need regular washing come out easily and clean easily. The rice cooker isn't at all messy to use or clean. The instruction booklet will tell you all you need to know about maintaining it.

Capacity: I chose the smaller rice cooker because I am usually cooking for myself or one other person. I also didn't want it to take up a lot of room, so I am pleased that is it quite a small appliance. However, I have used it to make rice for five people before, and I had plenty of room in the cooker to make it in one batch. I can't imagine a situation other than a large party where I would wish I had a bigger rice cooker.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I think the price was affordable, the rice cooker came to me in good condition, and it works wonderfully.

Comment: I ordered this for my son so have not actually used it myself, but he reports good results. I own a fancy Zojirushi "fuzzy logic" cooker that is much more expensive but we had to have it repaired twice and eventually replaced. This seems like a practical purchase.
