My steamer basket must be going on 20 years of age, looks like new. It has outlived the gift of a plug-in steamer that was the size of a food processor and awkward to clean (regifted that). It nestles in 2 quart or larger saucepans or Dutch ovens, with its trademark overlapping folding "petals" adjusting for the size of the pan. The stainless surface makes it reasonably easy to maintain. When using it to steam starchy vegetables like potatoes, I recommend coating it with vegetable spray to make clean-up less of a chore. The only thing better is the flat bottomed steamer insert that came with my Revere Ware saucepans. This, however, takes up much less storage space than any alternative.

Things others may not like: 1) The awkward thing about it is that moment of truth when you need to get the vegetables up and out of the steam pot into the serving dish.
