This review is from: Norpro Red Knockdown 8 Inch Steamer Strainer (Kitchen) We've been using the Norpro 8 inch steamer two or two times a week since we received it several months ago. It works very well. It makes steaming vegetables a much more streamlined affair: we cut up the veggies, toss them in the steamer basket, rinse them, then drop the steamer into the pot of water, cover and cook. The handle makes it so easy to move it in and out of the pot and the bonus is that it is SO much easier to clean than the traditional aluminum steamer basket I've used since I was a kid. We live in an ancient house in New Orleans with no dishwasher, so cleaning the little flaps on the aluminum one took as long as washing an entire load of dishes. This steamer is ridiculously easy to clean.
The only thing we've noticed is that the color has faded very quickly making it look somewhat dingy and it's showing signs of wear where it folds up. I'm okay with the color and the wear as long as it doesn't start tearing at the wear spots. Less for me to wash! I only wish this product comes in different colors! Great item!

This review is from: Norpro Red Knockdown 8 Inch Steamer Strainer (Kitchen) I knew it would steam vegetables, and they drain so easily with the nice sturdy handle. The first thing I made however was dumplings. I put the steamer over boiling water, spooned in the dumplings (bisquick) and covered it with my pot lid. There was room for 5 nice size dumplings which plumped up in no time! I added a tsp of chicken broth granules to the water to make a real good flavor. I also add beef or chicken granules/boullion (the salt free ones) to the water when I steam vegetables. You can even steam leaf spinach in this (won't fall through the holes, but finely chopped spinach may), corn on the cobs fit nicely in the flat bottom. Spaghetti? Break it in half and instead of a couple of inches of "steam water", use half to three quarters full of water in the pot. Sure a couple of strands try to escape and make a run for it out a hole or two, but this sure makes it easy not to have to get out the colander to drain pasta. Toss out those metal steamer things-the ones that trap food...Read more |
