Norpro Red Knockdown 8 Inch Steamer Strainer

We've been using the Norpro 8 inch steamer two or two times a week since we received it several months ago. It works very well. It makes steaming vegetables a much more streamlined affair: we cut up the veggies, toss them in the steamer basket, rinse them, then drop the steamer into the pot of water, cover and cook. The handle makes it so easy to move it in and out of the pot and the bonus is that it is SO much easier to clean than the traditional aluminum steamer basket I've used since I was a kid. We live in an ancient house in New Orleans with no dishwasher, so cleaning the little flaps on the aluminum one took as long as washing an entire load of dishes. This steamer is ridiculously easy to clean.

The only thing we've noticed is that the color has faded very quickly making it look somewhat dingy and it's showing signs of wear where it folds up. I'm okay with the color and the wear as long as it doesn't start tearing at the wear spots. I'll update this review if...Read more

I had the old type deep pan steamer with a strainer on handles that suspended down into the pan - what I absolutely hated about it was that everything was metal, including the handles for strainer pan that the food was in, so I always had to grab something to protect my hands when the food was ready - then it was a chore getting the food out of the strainer - anyway, this product is great - no more hot handles and it fits perfectly over the opening in my 3 qt saucepan - no, the lid to the pan does not fit down tightly onto the steamer, but it doesn't have to - it sits on top of it perfectly enough that it traps the steam and the veggies are cooked to perfection - really clever design to have it fold down for storage - very easy to clean, since the veggies don't get glued to it like they tend to with a metal steamer - love it !

So convenient and compact! I washed the veggies in this strainer and then go straight to the pot to steam. Less for me to wash! I only wish this product comes in different colors! Great item!
