Covered by a glass lid, this 600-watt appliance allows monitoring of the cooking process while the cooker produces 1 to 8 cups of cooked rice and keeps it warm for hours. The cooker operates with a single control to begin the cooking process, and a light indicates when the appliance is in its cooking and warming cycles. The exterior and handles are made of white plastic and stay cool when the cooker is turned on, while the rice-cooking pan is removable and coated with nonstick to readily release cooked rice and clean up easily. Accompanying the cooker are a rice spatula and a plastic measuring cup. The cooker measures 11-1/2 inches in diameter and 9-1/2 inches high and has cord storage underneath for reducing counter clutter. --Fred Brack
Comment: You measure rice, measure water (using the convenient lines on the non-stick pot, push the lever down and it automatically stops when the rice is done. It will also keep the rice warm after it cooks. Just that easy.

Summary: Not the worst or the best rice cooker 2004-04-23
Comment: This is the second rice cooker I have owned. Both have been in the mid-price range. For what I use it for it works just fine. I tend to make rice and throw a bunch of other stuff in while the rice is cooking. It does not tend to boil over like the other rice cooker I have used. Sometimes it may overcook a little on the bottom but not as bad as the other rice cooker I have used.
The non-stick surface cleans easily. I have had the cooker about a year and the non-stick surface is still in good condition.
It's not the best rice cooker ever but it is far from the worst.
While this one might not be the rice cooker for you I strongly recommend buying a rice cooker. It is a quick convenient way to make healthy meals.

Summary: Don't be fooled by the brand name! 2003-12-11
Comment: I bought this expensive, name brand rice cooker to replace the cheapy one I bought in college. What a mistake! The rice always browned on the bottom and the cooker quit heating less than six months after I bought it.

Summary: Basic American Rice Cooker 2003-12-04
Comment: So far this is my 2nd american brand rice cooker and it has also (...). I received it as a present. Unless you cook at least 4 cups of rice the rice will burn. Also, when it cooks the water and bubbles are filled and the steam comes out - almost thought I was doing something wrong. When the light changes to "warm" it needs to indicate in the booklet you have to wait before serving to let the water evaporate or else you will have very soggy rice. My mom and friends have Asian brand rice cookers and although expensive they work much better.

Summary: This rice cooker sucks 2003-11-12
Comment: I bought one of these hoping that it would acutally take less time in the kitchen. This thing takes more time than cooking it on the stovetop. Plus, it burns everything. I haven't had this product make a good thing of rice yet. I've tried everything from adding more water/liquid to making more/less rice. It doesn't work.
