Capable of steaming up to 20 cups of cooked rice at once, this handsome rice cooker can also be used for steaming vegetables or seafood in its stainless-steel steamer pan and for simmering, boiling, sautéing, and braising in its removable nonstick inner pot. When cooking rice, the cooker automatically shuts off when the rice is done and then goes into keep-warm mode so rice remains at serving temperature for hours. Because the inner pot is nonstick and the exterior is mirror-finished stainless steel, the cooker cleans up easily. A measuring cup, rice ladle, and recipes for making full use of the cooker are included. Summary: 10 Cup Rice Cooker - Farberware 2009-04-11
Comment: The cooker cooks well and you can steam vegtables on the stainless steel top insert. The rice pot is aluminum with teflon coating, no stainless here. I have had this product for a couple of years and when I am in the mood for rice dishes it performed well. Will keep the rice warm when finished cooking, best to use the rice soon therafter for best results.

Comment: My previous rice cooker of over 20 years began wearing out so I purchased the Farberware based on the companies' reputation. Every time I use it, the rice browns on the bottom. This is frustrating and I am ready to donate this one and go back to the oriental brand I had in the past.

Comment: THIS RICE COOKER WORKS VERY WELL COMPARED TO OTHERS OUT THERE. ESPECIALLY SALTON RICE COOKER WHICH IS A TOY RICE COOKER. BUY FARBERWARE RICE COOKER ALWAYS. THEY ARE THE BEST.

Summary: puzzled at bad reviews, mine worked great for 8 years! 2006-05-30
Comment: I am in the market for a new one now that my trusty old one has passed on after 8 years of hard service... But I see that several people have had complaints of it burning rice and being unreliable... This leads me to wonder whether the one I bought was an earlier generation, made in a different factory perhaps? Household current can also vary, as in my current house, my slow cooker burns everything. I am scratching my head about this, and wondering if I just got lucky? Mine was reliable and gave perfect results every time for 8 years! Maybe I will see if Consumer Reports rates it to detect changes in generation.
Addendum: I decided to pass on ever again using a rice cooker or bread machine once I learned that they all have teflon (or the Japanese patented nonstick coating that is exactly the same chemical, but with a different name) and I will not knowingly ingest anything cooked on or in a teflon coating ever again. It is easy enough to make rice on the stove by following directions, and making bread by hand is easy too. There are even overnight refrigerator and no-knead recipes for those who don't want to spend any time doing it. So since I couldn't get such devices without teflon coatings, I will do without them. And it's that much less clutter in the kitchen, and that much less use of electricity.
