What could be healthier than steamed veggies on a bed of rice or pasta? With this stackable set you can utilize the steam from whatever's simmering below to cook whatever's on top. How's that for cooking efficiency? Functional as well as beautiful, this 3-quart saucepot and 2-quart steamer insert are made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The pot has an aluminum core in its base to spread heat quickly and evenly. The core is completely clad in stainless steel so, like the rest of the pot and the steamer, the pot bottom resists corrosion and discoloring and cleans up easily. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour from the pot without dripping. Because the pot is 4-1/2 inches deep and comes with a tight-fitting, domed lid, it is roomy enough to simmer stocks and soups and can also be used for braising veal shanks or for cooking chili on the stovetop or in the oven. Comment: This steamer is great. I couldn't find anything comparable in stores. This is a nice, good quality steamer. Performs well, washes well in dishwasher. We use it almost daily. Better than the one I had that was lost in a move!

Summary: Small flaw in an otherwise nice product 2010-02-22
Comment: My friend, who is a chef, helped me pick out this product. Since I have an electric stove, the extra weight and thickness of the pot was reocmmended over a cheaper alternative. The extra weight/thickness helps prevent food from sticking (does not stick or burn from uneven/too much heat) and it washes easily.
The only drawback to the pot is the handles. Other pots and pans have heavier plastic than this particular model, and the heat does transfer slightly more into the handles because of it. It won't lead to a burn like a metla handle, but this is the only weak point of its custruction.

Summary: Stay Healthy and Steam Vegetables 2010-02-19

The reason I like this Farbeware steamer is that it is compact and it is straightforward and uncomplicated.
You simply fill up the lower vessel with water until about half way or a little more. Then, after peeling and cleaning any vegetables that might need cleaning, you place those veggies in the top chamber and cover it, and then you put that top with the cover into the bigger pot even before the water boils (if you like you can do it once it begins to boil).
Then, in about twenty minutes or so, after it has begun to boil (not after you put it in), you can lift the lid and stick a fork in the veggies to see if they are as done as much or as little as you'd like. and if "yes" you shut off the fire and enjoy the healthy food. Cleaning the steamer is very easy if you don't forget to turn off the fire. If you burn things, you will have to work hard to clean but eventually it gets completely shiny and clean.

Comment: Farberware is so worth the extra money. It is easy to clean, lightweight, and excellent quality. It will cook the food evenly, and not leech terrible things into the food because it is stainless steel. I happened to come across a set of pots and pans of Farberware at a yard sale and since then I have been hooked. Now every piece I look to add to my cooking collection I try to get Farberware!!

Summary: Most used pot in the house! 2010-01-16
Comment: I purchased this for daughter's boyfriend who just bought a house. But I have had one for years, and both of my daughters have one. Great for steaming veggies and we use it 3 to 6 times a week. It's probably the most used pot in the house. Perfect for the smaller family, 2 to 4 people.
