The RC850 is a handsome kitchen tool, with a large, squared-off body encased in bright, easy-to-clean chrome. The click-locking lid has a strong, pocket-like carrying handle; the stay-cool lid is made of lacquer-polished black plastic. On the underside of the lid, a removable steam shield helps keep the scalding steam away from the lid and directs moisture back into the rice. The deep nonstick cooking bowl is removable for easy cleaning; a sturdy white plastic steaming rack rests inside the upper lip of the bowl to suspend food above the water. A small plastic measuring cup and white plastic rice paddle are included; there's even a holder for the paddle on the back of the rice cooker.
To preserve the nonstick coating of the cooking bowl, use wooden, rubber, or plastic utensils such as the accompanying rice paddle. Vinegar (used to prepare short-grain rice for sushi) may slowly corrode the nonstick surface. Do not use abrasive scrubbers or cleansers on any part of the rice cooker. The nonstick rice bowl, steam tray, paddle, scoop, and detachable steam shield are all dishwasher safe. Re-season the bowl after every dishwasher cleanings by wiping the bowl with a little cooking oil. Unplug rice cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. The body of the rice cooker is not immersible. Wipe clean with a mild detergent and a damp, nonabrasive sponge or cloth; rinse and dry completely. The RC850 rice cooker measures 12 by 11 by 11-3/4 inches. Black & Decker includes a detailed instruction sheet and a one-year limited warranty against materials or workmanship. --Garland Withers

However, I did not want to spend alot of money but wanted something more than the basic glass top el-cheapo models where the lids rattle when cooking due to steam bubbling. I also wanted something big enough for parties. This rice cooker works very well. The rice comes out fluffy and thoroughly cooked, without any burning on the bottom of the pan. It's very versatile as it cooks 2 cups just as well as 24 (the max). The stainless steel on black coloring is also very nice as it matches the rest of my appliances. It's more than worth the $35 price. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful: By Deb "Jerzy" (Jerzy shore) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Black & Decker RC850 24-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer (Kitchen) We make lots of rice - almost everyday. This rice cooker can do white as well as brown. I've made as little as 4 cups, and as much as 7 cups at a time - no problems. When cooking brown rice, just add a tad more water than directed - it turns out perfect. I always make extra - so with the leftovers we can easily have rice pudding !! Only drawback is storage - its large - but lightweight - so if you have the space in a large deep drawer - you wouldn't have to worry about the weight breaking the rollers. 16 of 16 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Black & Decker RC850 24-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer (Kitchen) I had been searching for a rice cooker and finally decided upon this one because of the price. (I cook a lot of rice but didn't want a hefty price tag). I love the nonstick bowl. I have had no problem with sticking or burning. The steamer is a great addition, although for most foods you will need more time that it takes the rice to cook. I have had no problems with water spitting and the warm feature keeps my rice perfect! Considering that this product is a Black and Decker and not a well known brand for this specific product, I made my decision based on the two positive reviews. I have discovered that most of the time the littlest known products are the best. Black and Decker has certainly gained my attention with this rice cooker. It is a must have for your kitchen. |
